Today I fired a rifle. It was a .45-70, and I even hit the target a few times.

It was simultaneously empowering and terrifying. And painful.

(note to women: When firing a rifle for first time, put some thought into the bra you choose to wear. Specifically, think about that little metal buckle that allows you to adjust the straps. DO NOT choose a bra where this buckle is on the front of your shoulder. The recoil from the gun is going to hurt a little no matter what, and if you've got a pointy metal square between your shoulder and the gun, it WILL bruise you. I wish someone had warned me.)
